Odocoileus virginianus - Whitetailed Deer - odocoileus (well - hollowed teeth); virginianus (refers to Virgina, site of identification).   Characterized by reddish tan on back with white body; winter, coat is seasoned gray on the back.  Male's antler size reflect strength and age.  Females and males without antlers depend on forefeet capable of inflicting hard blows to adversaries.   Males average 6-7 feet in length and weigh about 300 lbs. females about 200 lbs. and grow to about 6.5 feet.  Multiple litters and the early reproduction age, allow whitetails to have notoriety of being one of the most abundant of all large-game animals.   Found mostly in woods throughout the United States, Whitetails are a southerly deer whose range into South America.
