Alces alces - Moose - Algonquin word meaning twig eater or bark stripper.  World's largest living member of the deer family.  Identified by their drooping snout and bell hanging from throat along with massive antlers which may stretch 6 feet and weigh over 70 lbs.  Found both in North America and in Eurasia, males can weigh up to 1,800 lbs; females around 870 lbs.  Diet consists of twigs, shrubs and bark of samplings during the winter and aquatic vegetation, grasses an leaves from upland plants during the winter.  Know as accomplished swimmers, they look for water plants rich in sodium salts.  Can consume up to 60 pounds of food in one day.
